every frame tells a story worth experiencing
These six Dutch feature films, spanning from 1994 till now, traverse a spectrum of genres and narratives. Each film invites the audience into different worlds.
From the surrealistic drama of 'Cat and Mouse', where young Belle grapples with her painful past, to the darkly comic contours of 'Meat', where a butcher's bizarre fantasies lead to an unexpected and grim end.
In "Crepuscule," the vibrant private life of a young woman sharply contrasts with her lonely existence in the bustling city. Meanwhile, "Lulu" entangles viewers in a seductive web, as the enigmatic Lulu captivates a wealthy publisher and those closest to him. Finally, "Venus in Furs" explores the story of a young masochist and his obsessive quest for suffering in love.
Currently, they are producing their latest film, slated for release in late 2024. Titled 'Last Days,' this poignant drama follows the journey of elderly German Max as he grapples with the ghosts of his past during World War II.
Moskitofilm's portfolio is a showcase of the company's ability to navigate complex characters and themes with a bold and artful approach.

In the twilight of his life, Max Severin is haunted by the echoes of his lost loved ones as the specters of his past bleed into the reality of his crumbling world.

In "Last Days," the elderly German Max embarks on a poignant journey to reconnect with the loved ones he lost during World War II. Returning to the house where he once rented a room before the war, Max finds himself entangled in a labyrinth of memories. His relationship with both his landlady and her daughter intertwines with the tumultuous events of the past, as Max grapples with the trauma of war and the loss of his Jewish loved ones. Now, in his twilight years, Max confronts a new battle—one waged within his own mind. As his memories blur the lines between past and present, Max's emotional barriers begin to crumble, revealing the profound impact of history on his life.
An old house, damp, crumbling stones, dark corridors, ominous music, a hand full of age spots, sounds of war. A train thundering over the rails. The first images of the film "Last Days" by Maartje Seyferth & Victor Nieuwenhuijs allow the viewer to enter the mind of German Max Severin. The present is designed in black and white. The images from his past have color. Past and present merge. Memories and thoughts about the past compete with each other. “I'm barely here anymore.” the old man mutters, “What I hear, what I see, what I feel is meaningless.” Melancholic music starts to sound and he begins to conduct, his long hair flowing, the sheets of the scores dancing through the air. During the Second World War he was an officer in the German Wehrmacht. Is he guilty of the death of the Jewish Zarah Wolf? As a young German Conservatory student, he rented a room from her. He became her lover but also fell in love with her daughter, Louise. When he went to live with Zarah in the 1930s, Louise was still a little girl, longingly putting on her mother's snakeskin pumps and dancing in front of the mirror, or croaking on a violin. The war breaks out. On August 12, 1941, Louise wrote in her diary: “I have never been so unhappy. Nora and Else no longer come to school.” Louise grows up and falls in love with the handsome, sensual man in the house. Zarah catches her child with her lover and leaves the house. “I can't stand this anymore.” “Where is the Zarah I loved"? Max asks.
“The freethinker, afraid of no one, has turned into a jealous mother.” Zarah packs her suitcase, gives her daughter her ring and kisses her fondly goodbye. “Promise me you will go into hiding and find a good place for the dog named Bear.” Where is she going? She doesn't say anything. Max tries to hide Louise, locking her in the attic of the house. Almost no daylight enters. She can't do much more than lie on her bed and wait. Max wears a uniform. He had to join the army. Bear can betray Louise. He shoots the dog. Images and sounds from the present penetrate old Max's brain. He sees intruders, a tank on the street shoots at him, commandos dragging him away. Alissa, the girl from home care, looks like Louise. Her presence triggers even more memories, but also fears and hallucinations. Alissa finds a photo of Louise and reads her diary. “Sometimes I think I'm like her.” says Alissa. She is pregnant and has a miscarriage, lying on the bed in the attic where Louise has been hidingduring the war. She's dying. Old Max climbs the stairs to help her. “I love you dearly, Lou.”In Max's brain Louise and Alissa merge into one. The house with the dark corridors, the peeling wallpaper, the curtains that move gently in the wind, everything bears the traces of a gruesome past.

THEY SAY YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT
In a butcher's realm of carnal desires and macabre fantasies, a young apprentice becomes entangled in a web of lust and murder, blurring the boundaries between passion and peril.
In a surreal and erotic thriller set within a butcher shop filled with hanging carcasses, an artisanal butcher indulges in his perverse fantasies with his wife. The young apprentice, Roxy, is drawn into the erotic allure of the butcher, capturing everything on her video camera. Despite the increasingly grotesque appearance of the meat, all characters delight in its consumption. After a celebratory evening, the butcher is found naked and murdered. Now, a detective must unravel the mystery and find the culprit.
An artisanal butcher explores his perverse sexual fantasies with his wife amidst hanging carcasses. The filming butcher's girl is also drawn to the erotic flattery of the butcher. Despite the increasingly repulsive appearance of the meat, all the characters savor it with delight. When the butcher is discovered naked and murdered after a celebratory evening, a detective must find the culprit.
Meat, nudity, and explicit language recur in this absurdist and at times film noir-esque low-budget production. Through the use of slow-motion, rapid editing, and characters wielding small digital cameras, the line between reality and fantasy becomes blurred.
Filmmakers Seyferth and Nieuwenhuijs once again cast renowned theater actor Titus Muizelaar in the dual role of butcher and detective for their fourth collaborative feature film. Actress Nellie Benner, who portrayed the butcher's girl, had previously appeared in another film production: "Crepuscule."
